You Don’t Have to Have It All Together to Find Rest
There are days when life feels beautifully ordinary.
The sun comes through the trees just right. The coffee tastes good. Somebody you love makes you laugh. You look around and think, Thank You, God. Life is good.
And then there are the other days.
The days when somebody you love is hurting.
The days when you’re waiting on an answer you can’t control.
The days when work is overwhelming, your mind won’t slow down, the house needs attention, your heart is tired, and somehow everybody seems to need something from you at the same time.
Those are the days when we tend to think:
I just need to get through this.
We convince ourselves that peace is somewhere ahead of us.
I’ll have peace when this situation gets better.
I’ll rest when everybody else is okay.
I’ll breathe when I know how this turns out.
But I’m learning something.
If we wait until life is completely peaceful before we allow ourselves to have peace, we may be waiting a very long time.
Life rarely ties itself up into a perfect little bow.
There will always be something unfinished.
Someone we’re praying for.
Something we’re trying to understand.
A decision we haven’t made.
A hurt we haven’t completely healed from.
A question God hasn’t answered yet.
And still, Jesus says:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
I love that He doesn’t put qualifications on that invitation.
He doesn’t say, Come when you’ve stopped worrying.
He doesn’t say, Come when your faith is stronger.
He doesn’t say, Come after you’ve figured everything out.
He simply says:
Come.
Come tired.
Come confused.
Come carrying yesterday’s grief and tomorrow’s worries.
Come with the prayer you’ve prayed a hundred times.
Come when you’re grateful.
Come when you’re frustrated.
Come when you don’t even know what to say.
Just come.
Rest Doesn’t Mean Nothing Is Wrong
I think sometimes we misunderstand what God’s peace is supposed to look like.
We imagine that if we truly trusted Him, nothing would bother us. We wouldn’t cry. We wouldn’t worry. We wouldn’t have questions.
But we’re human.
Faith doesn’t mean pretending something doesn’t hurt.
Peace doesn’t mean everything around us is peaceful.
Sometimes peace is simply being able to say:
“God, I don’t know what You’re doing here, but I know I’m not walking through it alone.”
That’s a different kind of rest.
It’s the kind that doesn’t depend on circumstances cooperating.
Find Your Little Haven
Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to quiet places so much.
A river moving over rocks.
Sunlight slipping between trees.
A trail leading somewhere you can’t quite see yet.
The sound of water falling in the distance.
Those places remind me that creation isn’t in a hurry.
The river doesn’t panic because there’s a rock in its path.
It simply keeps moving around it.
Maybe there’s a lesson in that.
We don’t have to solve our entire lives today.
Sometimes we just need to take the next step.
Say the next prayer.
Notice one beautiful thing.
Call someone we love.
Sit quietly with God.
Laugh when we get the chance.
And trust Him with what we cannot carry.
Come Find Rest
That’s part of the reason Hopeful Havens means so much to me.
I don’t want this to be a place where we pretend life is always beautiful.
I want it to be a place where we remember that beauty can still be found when life isn’t.
A place for encouragement.
A little laughter.
A little faith.
Beautiful things.
Real stories.
And reminders that no matter what season we’re walking through, hope hasn’t disappeared.
So if you’re carrying something heavy today, you don’t have to have it all figured out.
You don’t even have to know what tomorrow looks like.
For today, maybe this is enough:
Take a breath.
Look around.
Talk to God.
And remember—
You are allowed to rest while God is still working on the things you’ve been praying about.
🌿 Come find rest.
— Hopeful Havens
